David Potts-Dupre: Music

When You're Gone

(David Potts-Dupre)
When You're Gone David Potts-Dupre 5/7/04

You know the days all seem too long now
And the nights just never seem to end
Cause when you're gone -- There ain't nothing I can do
To fill my time with joy and happiness

You tell me "I'll be gone for a month now"
And then you're coming back to me
You say we need a little time, a little space
But what I need is you here by my side

Oh girl, even day turns into night when you are gone
Oh girl, there's never sun but only clouds at morning's dawn

You know that everything seems so empty
You got me living in a cell
You got the key to open up my door
To free me and just let me feel once more

You know I'm counting down the days now
It's all that keeps me going
The day you come back
Is the day I'll live again
Until then I'm just putting in my time

Oh girl, even air without you near ain't fit to breathe
Oh girl, even wine can't quench the thirst for what I need

Song Notes

When You're Gone

My first and only attempt at a song with a bit of a jazz feel. I've always felt it sounded like a song written a long time ago. Fritz or Steve suggested a bossa nova feel and I was skeptical at first. It took me awhile to get used to the faster speed, but I ended up loving it and I particularly liked Michael's guitar work on this song and on Not Like You.
